Special Needs Page

Children with autism spectrum disorders and other behavioral conditions have special needs that must be met for them to interact well with the world around them. Caring and helping those children requires equally special and attentive care.

Learning Tree provides many services for children with autism and related developmental disorders living in Aventura. This includes behavioral therapies geared toward helping them live more fulfilling lives.

ABA therapy
ABA, or Applied Behavior Analysis, seeks to take a closer look at specific behaviors (actions and skills) and their environment (any outside influence that may affect those behaviors), then seeks to improve unwanted behaviors by substituting new, better behaviors.

Therapists have used ABA therapy to help children and adults with autism and related developmental disorders since the 1960s. Since then, the techniques have been refined and elaborated upon, but they have consistently shown positive results in research studies and psychologist's offices.

At Learning Tree, we can use ABA and other therapy sessions to help children cope with everyday situations that may otherwise prove challenging for them. The daily tasks of sitting down to a meal, learning in a classroom, and speaking with other kids are all well within the scope of ABA therapy techniques.

Some examples include:

  • Positive reinforcement

  • Modeling, Shaping, and Chaining Behaviors

  • Behavior Momentum

  • Self-Management Techniques

If you feel that your child could benefit from special needs therapies such as ABA and other positive behavior-shaping techniques, we have many options that we can discuss in order to make your child's life easier for everyone.
