No one wants their traumatic past experiences haunting them forever. They want them out of their brain, so they can move on and find happiness. EMDR is a type of therapy that can help you heal from past experiences.It is short for Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing. The eye movement in EMDR resembles the same process as REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep- which occurs in the same stage as dreaming. Scientist believe this is where the brain stores memories, balance moods, process survival information that typically comes from traumatic experiences. Unlike REM, the mind and body is totally awake during EMDR therapy, which allows a person to process certain situations about their traumatic experiences. EMDR isn't amnesia- it wont make the person forget.It is designed for a person to recognize their trauma, understand how it affects them, and learn how to move past it. People often do not understand how traumatic ordinary life experiences can be. Some experience trauma and don’t even recognize it as the cause of lasting pain, and it can be intimidating to speak out or seek treatment. EMDR is not a new therapy, research began back in 1989. Use of EMDR  continues to grow and is considered a medically necessary treatment for PTSD. EMDR therapy is offered at the Learning Tree Miami- Aventura office by Dr. Mordechai Salfer, PhD. Dr. Salfer, PhD has extensive clinical experience as well as proven success in EMDR therapy.
